Live a fantastic experience in one of the most incredible caves in the Riviera Maya.

Enter a magical world. An underground river and cave system, where the formations are still growing, even after four million years in becoming as magnificent as they are. This natural museum is filled with a kaleidoscope of speleothems.

For two hours, you will walk, wade and swim (or be towed in your life jacket) through an easy 600 meter route. You will be amidst the thousands of stalactites and stalagmites found in this protected natural reserve. Learn and marvel in this ancient, magical subterranean world that, until now, has remained unexplored for millions of years.

Rio Secreto is near Playa del Carmen and it has only been open for a couple of years. It is difficult to describe the caverns in all their glory to someone who has never been. You will be transported into an environment that is beyond beautiful. The deep silences of the inner caverns are truly sublime. The crystal clear waters will have you wishing you could stay forever. All of this is lit solely by the torches in your headgear, which is precisely how it is best viewed.

Each step of the way will be escorted by a knowledgeable, multi-lingual guide. This professional individual will match your pace, while watching out for your health and safety. They will also be ensuring that you miss nothing, by pointing out areas of special interest. This cavern system was used by the ancient Maya, as a place of meditation and worship. Your guides will talk you through the whole of human history here, as well as the natural history.

Comfortable clothing (no flip flops)

Water shoes. These aren't strictly necessary, but if you prefer them, then bring them along. The site does provide them too.

Bathing suit on, additional set of dry clothes.

Credit card or cash for tips, photos, crafts and souvenirs.

Do not bring cameras/camcorder, as you will not be able to use them inside. It is difficult for amateur photographers to take pictures, whilst navigating the route. Fragile rock tends to get knocked off in those circumstances, as you often need both hands to make your way through. For those who really would like photographs, there are some professionally produced ones for sale afterwards, plus it is possible to ask the photographer to snap you and your party in there. All proceeds from the sale of photographs go towards managing the nature reserve.

Do not apply sun-block nor mosquito repellent. At the beginning of your adventure, you will be asked to shower, to remove any chemicals on your body (ie perfume, sunscreen, deodorant etc), which may damage the formations inside. This can be done whilst wearing your bathing suit.

Maximum weight: 250lb /120 kg. Minimum age: 6 years. For security purpose this tour is not available for people with severe physical handicaps, heart diseases, nor pregnant women or people under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
