DESCRIPTION:
Visit a stunning eco-archaeological park, brimming with activities, sights or just a place to relax in paradise.
Xcaret EcoPark will truly leave you spoiled for choice about what to do first. The temptation will be to just stand there staring in wonder at how beautiful it all is, but that's not going to make a good story in the retelling back home.
At Xcaret, you can swim with dolphins; or, if that isn't exciting enough, you can swim with nurse sharks. Or you could go diving or snorkeling amidst the flora and fauna of Caribbean waters, not least of which is an underground river. Then there's the Sea Trek, where you are fitted with a oxygen helmet and get to walk on seabed.
Too energetic? Take a boat along the river instead, with a guide to point out the sights of the jungle. Or simply relax beside the natural pools or on the beach, where the water is refreshing and the hammocks are relaxing. Oh! And did we mention the lagoon? Tropical fish, jungle surroundings, crystalline waters and more hammocks.
Xcaret (pron. Ish-car-ret) means 'small inlet' in the Mayan language. The site was settled, as a port and trading center, by the Mayans in circa 200 CE. Some of the buildings dating from that early period can still be seen today, albeit as ruins; however, the majority of the archaeological sights seen today date from the 13th to 16th centuries CE. Some of these structures lie within the modern day Ecopark, while the rest are just outside the border.
The park covers 81 hectares (200 acres) and includes a beach, two rivers, a coral reef aquarium, animal shelters and two theaters, as well as the inlet itself with the Mayan ruins around it.
Our excursion begins by picking up passengers according scheduled time from the lobbies of all major Cancun hotels. Check-in will be performed at our terminal prior to departure in a deluxe motor coach or van. Manor price applies for children whose height is between 44” and 55”. Xcaret is located 55 kilometers south of Cancun, near Playa del Carmen.
